Person of Interest

CBS’s Person of Interest to Feature Music from My Band

BEFORE I WROTE BOOKS, I used to be in a rock band called 7k. We made four albums, a live DVD, and toured the US twice. It was an incredible experience and I loved every minute of it.

This Tuesday, April 14, at 10PM ET/PT, one of our songs, “Take It Off,” will be used* in an episode of the CBS crime drama Person of Interest called “Terra Incognita,” in which Reese (Jim Caviezel) finds himself on a perilous personal journey when he takes on a homicide case Detective Carter was never able to close.

7k covered a fairly wide musical spectrum, from pop rock songs like “My High Life” to metal-influenced rock songs like “Stark Raving Calm.” The track that made the cut on this show, “Take It Off,” is somewhere in the middle—a straight-up, riff-based, Zeppelinesque hard rock song. Guitarist David Neil Black brought the riff into rehearsal one night in late 2008, and drummer Corey Manske and I glommed onto it immediately.

Our songs have been used in films before: “The Most Of This” from our album “Through the Windshield” was featured in the credit sequence of the 2006 romantic comedy Young, Single, & Angryand “Who Dies First” was used in the indie cult horror flick Stupid Teenagers Must Die! The Person of Interest placement, however, will reach the widest 7k audience to date.

Tuesday night, I’ll be taking a break from working on my new novel manuscript to sit down and hear our song on national TV. If you catch it, leave a comment below.

*All I know is that the song will be used in the episode. They could use the entire song, played over a Tarantino-style slow-motion kung-fu battle, or they could cut it down to a four-second clip and use it as hold music while the hero calls his Geico agent. I have no idea. But you should totally watch the whole episode anyway.
