SYMPTOMS makes Powell’s List

Renowned Portland indie bookstore Powell’s City of Books chose Symptoms of Being Human for their YA Mirrors and Windows list. Other selections include Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay, Julie Murphy’s Dumplin’, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and Turtles All the Way Down by John Green. I’m thrilled and grateful to Powell’s books!

Some narratives act as mirrors, reflecting and affirming our lives and feelings. Others are more like windows, showing us how different people think, feel, and act in the world. Both kinds teach us empathy, sharpen our curiosity, and allow us to celebrate human diversity. With these goals in mind, we’ve put together a collection of some of our favorite books for young adults — a vibrant list exploring a multiplicity of experiences and identities.
